Resellers and agencies who manage multiple client accounts sometimes
want an automated notification or API event when a new client successfully
installs the Visual Visitor tracking script on their website. This article
clarifies what is currently possible.
Current Limitations
At this time, Visual Visitor does not provide any of the following:
A webhook event triggered by a
successful tracking script installation.
- An API endpoint that returns a
"script installed" flag for a given account.
- Email notifications sent to the
reseller when a client completes script installation.
This means script installation status cannot be monitored
programmatically through the API or webhook system at this time.
Available Workarounds
While direct notifications are not available, several practical
workarounds can help you track client onboarding progress:
1. Monitor by Free Trial Start Date:
When a
free trial begins, it is a reasonable indicator that the client is starting the
onboarding process. You can use the trial start date (available in the reseller
portal) as a proxy for "onboarding initiated."
2. Monitor by First Identification:
The
first time a visitor is identified on a new account, it confirms the script is
installed and firing. You can check the dashboard for a new account's first
identification date, or configure a webhook on that account that triggers on
the first visitor event.
3. Manual Verification:
Periodically log in
to the client's account (using the Login As your Client function in the
reseller portal) and check whether visitor data is present. No data after a few
days of the trial starting may indicate the script was not installed.
4. Reach Out Directly:
Proactively contact
new clients a day or two after account creation to confirm script installation.
A brief onboarding check-in also improves activation rates.
5. Contact Support:
Contact Visual Visitor Support, we'd be happy to review the website and confirm installation.
