Chrome Extension Shows Invalid User Error — How to Fix It

The Visual Visitor Chrome extension allows you to look up contact and visitor data directly from LinkedIn and other web pages without opening the full dashboard. If the extension displays an "invalid user" error — even though you can log in normally at app.visualvisitor.com — the cause is almost always a browser autofill or credential conflict.

Common Causes

  1. Browser autofill is filling in the extension login fields with incorrect or outdated credentials.
  2. The extension is pulling cached credentials that do not match your current password.
  3. A browser profile conflict is causing the extension to authenticate against the wrong credential store.

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Check autofill settings.
Open Chrome Settings > Autofill > Passwords. Look for any saved Visual Visitor credentials and verify they match your current login. If they are outdated, delete the saved entry and try again.

2. Disable autofill temporarily.
In Chrome Settings > Autofill > Passwords, toggle off "Offer to save passwords." Then close and reopen the extension and attempt to log in manually.

3. Clear the extension's stored session.
Right-click the Visual Visitor extension icon > Manage Extension > click the extension's storage settings and clear cached data, or simply remove and reinstall the extension.

4. Log out and back in via the web first.
Visit app.visualvisitor.com, log out completely, then log back in. After a successful web login, reopen the extension — it may pick up your refreshed session token.

5. Try a different Chrome profile.
If you use multiple Chrome profiles (e.g., personal and work), confirm you are using the extension in the same profile where your Visual Visitor credentials are saved.

Still Getting the Error?

If none of the above resolves the issue, take a screenshot of the exact error message and contact support at support@visualvisitor.com. Include your Visual Visitor account email address so the team can verify your account status.

Notes
The extension requires an active, valid Visual Visitor subscription. If your account has lapsed or your password was recently changed, ensure your credentials are current before troubleshooting browser settings.
