How is Time Spent Determined?

How is time spent on a page determined? Once the webpage loads our javascript is executed, this starts a timer that is counting how much time is spent on the page. Once the visitor moves to another page of your site, the tracking script reloads with the page, and the counter starts over for the new page. Giving a break in the time spent to determine time on the previous page. When the visitor leaves the site, we are not able to track the time spent on the last page they viewed before leaving as the tracking script does not reload to gather that time.

When a notification lists "-- seconds" as the amount of time a visitor spent viewing a page, this indicates an undetermined amount of time. The last page and/or the only page that the visitor viewed before leaving the website will be represented by "--".
