Understanding B2B vs. B2C Identification Plans
Visual Visitor offers two types of identification plans — B2B (+Employee) and B2C (+Person) — each designed for a different marketing and sales strategy. Choosing the correct plan type is one of the first decisions made during onboarding.
B2B Identification (+Employee)
The +Employee plan identifies website visitors using professional and business-related data.
What +Employee Identifies
- Company name
- Professional email address
- Job title and job level
- Company size
- Industry
- Company revenue
Best For
B2B companies that sell products or services to other businesses and want to identify:
- Which companies are visiting their website
- Which employees or decision-makers are engaging with their content
Important Notes
B2C Identification (+Person)
The +Person plan identifies website visitors using consumer and household-level data.
What +Person Identifies
- Visitor name
- Personal email address
- Household demographic information
Best For
Consumer-focused businesses such as:
- Retail
- Automotive dealerships
- Home services
- Real estate
- Ecommerce
Important Notes
- Does not require an ICP configuration.
- Attempts to identify all eligible visitors regardless of profession or industry.
- Typically identifies a higher percentage of visitors for consumer-focused websites compared to B2B identification.
Can I Use Both Plans?
Yes. Some companies use both B2B and B2C identification simultaneously.
Common deployment options include:
- Running separate tracking scripts on the same website
- Using different scripts on separate subdomains
This setup is common for businesses that market to both companies and individual consumers.
Each script creates its own sub-account with:
- Separate dashboards
- Separate alerts
- Separate identification budgets
- Independent reporting
