How to Confirm Your Visitor Tracking Is Active and Working

How to Confirm Your Visitor Tracking Is Active and Working

If you have not seen any new visitors in your dashboard for an extended period, or you simply want to confirm that tracking is functioning correctly, this article walks through the checks you should perform before contacting support.

Step 1: Log In and Check the Dashboard

Visit app.visualvisitor.com and log in to your account.
The main dashboard displays recent visitor data. If visitors have been captured in the current month, you will see them listed here.

Step 2: Verify the Tracking Script Is Installed

Info
The most common reason for missing data is that the tracking script was removed from the website — this can happen during website updates, theme changes, or CMS migrations.

To verify:

1. Open your website in a browser.
2. Right-click the page and select "View Page Source."
3. Use Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) to search for your Visual Visitor script.
4. If the script does not appear in the source, it has been removed and needs to be reinstalled.

Notes
The installation script can be found in your dashboard under the Installation or Configuration section. See also the article "Where to Find Your Installation Script."

Step 3: Check Your Monthly ID Budget

If the script is installed but no new visitors are appearing, verify that your monthly identification budget has not been exhausted. If your plan limit has been reached, tracking stops until the 1st of the next month (or until overage is enabled). See the article on adjusting your monthly budget.

Step 4: Check Notification Settings

It is possible that tracking is working but you are not receiving email alerts. Log in to the dashboard and review your notification preferences under Configuration > Users. Confirm that real-time, daily, or weekly email alerts are enabled for your email address.

Step 5: Confirm the Correct Script Is Active

If you manage multiple websites or have recently migrated to a new plan tier (e.g., from Legacy to +Employee or +Person), ensure the correct script for your current plan is installed. Only one script should be active on each website.

Warning
Running two scripts simultaneously can cause conflicts.

When to Contact Support

If you have verified that the script is installed, your budget is not exhausted, and notifications are enabled — but you still see no data — contact support@visualvisitor.com. Provide your account name and website URL so the team can review the script installation and tracking status directly.
