Why Is My Tracking Script Blocked by a Cookie Consent Banner?

If you would like our team to review whether your cookie consent manager is configured correctly with Visual Visitor, please contact
support@visualvisitor.com
for assistance.

The Visual Visitor cookie consent banner displays on your website to obtain visitor consent before tracking cookies are set. If the banner is not appearing on your site, or the option to enable it is greyed out in your dashboard, this article covers the many common causes and fixes.

The cookie consent banner requires a one-time setup by the Visual Visitor support team before you can configure it yourself. If the option in your dashboard (found under Configuration > Installation > Cookie Consent tab) appears greyed out or non-interactive:

Resolution: Contact support@visualvisitor.com and request that the cookie banner be enabled for your account. Once enabled, you will be able to access all banner configuration options including text customization, button labels, and behavior settings.

Issue 2: Banner Not Appearing on Specific Pages

If the banner appears on some pages but not others (for example, it does not appear on a donation page or a landing page):

Common causes:

  1. A different tracking script is installed on that page compared to the rest of the site. Verify that all pages use the same Visual Visitor script tied to the same account.
  2. A third-party CMS or page builder (e.g., a donation platform embedded via iframe) may block or override the cookie script.
  3. The page was created with a different template or page builder that does not load the main site scripts.

Troubleshooting steps:

1. Compare the tracking script on a working page vs. the affected page (right-click > View Page Source, search for your script).
2. Ensure both pages use the same script ID.
3. If the page is served from a subdomain or third-party platform, check whether their policies allow custom JavaScript injection.

If you want to turn off the cookie consent banner entirely for a specific account (for example, if the client uses a third-party consent management platform), contact support@visualvisitor.com with the account name and confirmation of the client's consent setup. The team can disable the banner for that account.

Notes
Visual Visitor's cookie banner and third-party consent management platforms (CMPs) can interact in specific ways.

Tips

  1. Always test the banner by visiting your website in a private/incognito browser session after making changes, since consent may already be stored in a regular browser session.
  2. Banner customization (text, colors, button labels) is available in Configuration > Installation > Cookie Consent tab once the feature is enabled.
